Concernedly Yours
Dear rap music,
Please start releasing full albums. Please stop leaking one track at a time off your record over the course of like two years, as you are dickishly doing, Big Boi. PR people, do not send me a five-track sampler. That will only make me sick of the five best tracks. Just put out the fucking record. I don’t care about the label, Big Boi. Leak the whole goddamn record, man. This decidedly does not mean that I will buy it upon its release; we are not bargaining. I am looking out for you. And this is not a plea for “cohesive albums.” I do not care about “cohesive albums.” Give me six hot tracks and a bunch of filler if you’ve gotta (I see you, Cam’ron!). This may mean some of you have to stop beefing with your labels, a habit which I think is as deeply embedded within the hip-hop mythos these days as, like, fucking. But squash the beef, guys. Let’s get those records out.
I’m talking to you, Big Boi. Put out your fucking record. Leak it. Your shit is hemorrhaging relevance.
Concernedly yours,

Major cosign. That particular rap duo is killing me. Let me guess, the next leak will be the full version of ‘lookin 4 ya’.
Dr Dre has passed well beyond that relevance/irrelevance line. Relapse was the nail in that coffin. Why would people be anticipating a Dre album with beats that will (probably) sound no different to those on 2001?

Yes, “Detox” has been quite the joke for a while now (although that Dr. Pepper commercial snippet was not bad) but I wholeheartedly agree that Big Boi needs to get on releasing this solo project. “For Your Sorrows” is wonderful and “Royal Flush” still rules, but we can’t wait forever.

oh come on, you guys heard that killer busta track off ob4cl2 right?! dre’s still got it!

Sure have, and yes you’re right, About Me is great. Catalina? Not so much. I suppose there’s no real purpose in speculating on what Detox will be like, we’ll have to (keep) waiting, but I’m just saying you reach a stage where you no longer anticipate albums like this.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see where this Gucci fella’s career goes…

i’ve realized sorta after the fact that this is my favorite non-soulja boy track of the year.
