With our year-end coverage soon over—which we’ll be celebrating at the CMG mansion, as always, with a weeks-long power nap—we’re once again bracing ourselves and, ignoring our collective Gut, asking for your feedback. Awards, the Top 50 list, all that we’ve unforgivably neglected to include on either, and everything else this year, including our recent ‘80s Fantasy Covers Podcast, which we love dearly: let us know what you think. Good news and bad news, folks. Good news: our ’80s Fantasy Covers Podcast is still happening, and it’s easily one of the best we’ve curated yet. (See below for three reasons why.) Which makes the bad news worse: unfortunately, it won’t be going up today, as we’ll need a few more weeks to deal with some…let’s just say “unexpected technical difficulties.” So, no, we can’t post the podcast just yet, which totally sucks; but, yes, it’s still on the way and awesome and completely free.

Fuck whatever it is you were planning to do or get done this week. This month. ‘Til question marks, really. If you’ve not already succumbed to the siren call of Turntable.fm and its bread-and-butter premise, “play music together”—and unless you’re some useless slob like me doing it where no one cares—grab your headphones and get ready to worry about how much of your day is going to go down to the drain and whether or not your co-workers are going to find you out and snitch.

Think back, way back, to 2006: Twitter was just a fledgling start-up, merely hinting at the promise of insufferable feuds to come; Timbaland was fucking everywhere, and for the most part killing it; LOST still had some of us fooled into thinking, or maybe just hoping, that it wouldn’t end up a flaming shitfest beyond our wildest fears; the International Astronomical Union finally took Pluto—widely known as the asshole of the Kuiper belt—down a notch, demoting it to “dwarf planet”; the “Shania Twain defense” became an actual thing; and TIME magazine, in a cheap and oddly Lebowski-ian move, made “You” their person of the year. Um…congrats?

In case you haven’t been following our social media (which: you should make that a priority) or podcast section, we’re in the running to win CBC Radio 3’s Best Canadian Music Website Award. Or something. We’re not really sure what that means either, given that over half of our current staff isn’t Canadian: Dom resides in Portland, George and Alan live in the UK, Clay spends his days scowling out the window at Chicagoans, etc. Regardless, we were founded in Newfoundland, are named after a Gord Downie album, and Scott’s now based in Halifax, so that seems good enough for the CBC.
